Louisiana Purchase

Strategy:

Using Maps

Maps can be used as a starting point to analyze the ways in which geography and exploration -- along with culture, science, and politics -- have affected the growth and development of the United States. In this session, you will use mapping activities to examine the historical context and impact of the Louisiana Purchase. You will then consider political, economic, social, and Constitutional questions about the costs and benefits of the Louisiana Purchase for Native Americans, African Americans, and others. You will also begin to think about new ways of incorporating these historical ideas and strategies into your classroom.
