Journal: Apply This Strategy to Other Content Areas

Think about the applicability this strategy (using maps) to some other topic in the history classroom. In your journal, describe a map activity you might incorporate into one of the topics below or a history topic of your choice. What purpose would the activity play in the lesson sequence?

  1. Distance and its impact upon American technology and trade
  2. Slavery and the transformation of geography or politics
  3. Land use and migration during antebellum, late 19th century, 20th century, or post-WWI or post-WWII America

Journal: Apply Other Strategies to This Content Area

Think about other strategies that you could apply to this topic (the Louisiana Purchase) to help students understand the scope and characteristics of the territory, and the realities of exploration in these lands during the early 19th century. Consider the relative strengths and weaknesses of each approach in shaping an understanding of the relevant history. Describe your ideas in your journal.
