Expert Witness Report: Barbara Forrest
If you recall, DASB curriculum committee chair William Buckingham arranged for the donation of 60 copies of the supplementary textbook Of Pandas and People. Prepublication versions of the text, subpoenaed from the Foundation for Thought and Ethics, an organization supporting the teaching of ID in schools, were titled Creation Biology, Biology and Creation, and Biology and Origins. Barbara Forrest used the word count graph below to show that a systematic transition had occurred in the evolution of the textbook. In 1987, references to words containing the letter sequence "creationis" (as in creationist or creationism) were replaced with "intelligent design."
Graph by Nicholas J. Matzke, made during the Kitzmiller v. Dover case while working for the National Center for Science Education (www.ncseweb.org). Presented by expert witness Barbara Forrest on Day 6 of the trial. See transcript. Reprinted with permission.
