An informal survey of 1050 teachers by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) in 2005 found that 31 percent of teachers responding to the poll experience pressure to include creationism, intelligent design, or other nonscientific alternatives, and that 30 percent feel pushed to de-emphasize or omit evolution in their science classrooms. NSTA summarized the findings of the survey in a Press Release on March 24, 2005.
