Transcript: The Book
GIRL: This is my grandma Alicia. I call her Abuelita
ALICIA: So now I want to show you a book that we gave you for your birthday- “Mami’s Flowers” and so I wrote this little story here about Mami-grandma and how she used to live in California as a migrate farm worker. And so Mami was on her way back from working in the migrant fields when she wanted to build a house there for her children- we needed adobes to build a house. When it got this high, Mami planted baby rose vines by the window of each room in the house, so every spring the outside walls of our house were different color. And so this is a book that you can keep when Abuelita is not here anymore because you’re my very special granddaughter.
GIRL: Everyone has a special story to tell. Ask someone in your family to tell you their story.
