Understanding Solubility and Density is a graduate-level professional development course designed to enhance your understanding and teaching of physical science. In two sessions, you will investigate physical science topics using hands-on activities and online resources including video segments, interactive activities, readings, and other multimedia materials. These resources are drawn from Teachers' Domain, WGBH's digital library service.

open Overview

Understanding Solubility and Density
This course advances your understanding and effective teaching about how differences in solubility of substances affect density.

Session 1: Solubility and Density
Learners investigate changes in density, and in particular how solubility of one substance in another affects the density of the resulting mixture.

Session 2: The Environment for Learning
In a companion methodology session, learners look at solubility and density in the context of how to create a classroom environment that fosters inquiry learning.

All sessions and their content correspond to the National Science Education Standards.
