Source: Hubblecast: "Saturn’s Stunning Double Show"/ESA/Hubble
Learn about Saturn's aurorae in this video from NASA. In 2009, there was a rare opportunity to observe Saturn such that both poles of the planet could be seen simultaneously. The Hubble Space Telescope gathered data over several days, and researchers used the images they gathered to create a movie of the northern and southern lights. Visualizations show how the interaction between the solar wind, atmosphere, and planetary magnetic fields produce aurorae. The differences between the northern and southern aurorae of Saturn indicate that its magnetic field is uneven.
