When learners seem to struggle with working problems of increasing complexity, guided practice can help strengthen new-found skills and also bolster learner confidence. Care must be taken, however, to allow some struggle, as learners' retention increases the more they think and puzzle to find problem solutions, rather than having the answers handed to them.
