Commonly, mistakes made when changing percents to decimals occur with a single digit percent, such as 6%. These types of mistakes can be discussed through the lens of money, so that students may better understand that just as six cents and sixty cents differ, so do .06 and .60 and, ultimately, 6% and 60%. This use of real-world application results in less abstract, process-based learning, and more relevance and retention for adult students.
