These images from Great Performances: The Little Mermaid from the San Fransisco Ballet feature important scenes from the ballet. From the underwater paradise to the Prince's kingdom, each scene brilliantly evokes the beauty, love and loss the Little Mermaid endures as she makes her journey from mermaid to human.
Compare the characters featured in the ballet. Looking through the images, which dancer do you find most compelling? Which dancer is the least compelling? Provide examples from the photos to support your answer.
What cultural elements do you think influenced the ballet (e.g., set design, costumes, etc.)? Where do you see elements of these influences in the images?
Do you think this presentation enriches the classic fairytale or reduces it? Cite specific images to support your claim.
Academic standards correlations on Teachers' Domain use the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) database of state and national standards, provided to NSDL projects courtesy of JES & Co.
We assign reference terms to each statement within a standards document and to each media resource, and correlations are based upon matches of these terms for a given grade band. If a particular standards document of interest to you is not displayed yet, it most likely has not yet been processed by ASN or by Teachers' Domain. We will be adding social studies and arts correlations over the coming year, and also will be increasing the specificity of alignment.
