Technical Notes

This site will work effectively with most contemporary Web browsers. We recommend Internet Explorer browser version 5 or newer, Netscape 7 or newer, Firefox, or Safari.

There are numerous links to external Web sites, videos, and interactive activities. We cannot guarantee the reliability of these sites, although we have chosen ones that appeared to be reliable at the time of publication of this course. To view these linked resources, you may need these plug-ins:

  • Flash, which allows you to experience interactive multimedia, including audio, video, animations, and puzzles, through your Web browser.
  • QuickTime, which allows you to listen to or see QuickTime audio or video files over the Internet without having to wait for the whole file to download.
  • Windows Media Player, which allows you to listen to or see Windows Media audio or video files over the Internet.
  • RealPlayer, which allows you to see or listen to RealMedia audiofiles or see video files over the Internet without having to wait for the whole file to download.
  • Acrobat Reader (or Preview on Macintosh computers), which allows you to read and print PDF files.
