NOVA: Cracking Your Genetic Code
Special Collection
Scientists can now sequence an individual’s full genome, but should they? NOVA: “Cracking Your Genetic Code” presents some of the bioethical debates that surround genetic testing. Full genome sequencing and the testing of specific genes for mutations may help with disease prevention or treatment, but they also raise important moral and socioeconomic concerns, given the highly personal nature of test results.
Major funding for NOVA: "Cracking Your Genetic Code" was provided by the National Institutes of Health. The project described was supported by Award Number RC1RR028476 from the National Center for Research Resources. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official view of the National Center for Research Resources or the National Institutes of Health. Additional funding was provided by Millicent Bell, through the Millicent and Eugene Bell Foundation.
The program was produced in association with The Hastings Center.
